About Me

Schell_Shannon_Default_Headshot.jpeg

I graduated in 2009 from the University of South Florida with a Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education.  I also have a BA in Psychology from the University of Florida.  I am thrilled to be independently practicing as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Carrollwood and surrounding Tampa Bay areas.

I have experience helping couples navigate through relationship difficulties and infidelity.  Through guiding couples with identifying unhealthy fighting patterns and replacing those with effective communication techniques, I help distant couples build stronger bonds.  I also work with adult clients struggling with Anxiety, Depression, trauma, grief/loss, stress, work related issues, low self-esteem, and family conflict.  I have over 10 years of experience working as a School Counselor and have a great deal of experience working with elementary and middle school aged students along with their families.

My Philosophy.  Coping with stress, major life transitions, and loss are common reasons people seek out therapy.  I am committed to providing a safe, supportive environment that will serve as a foundation for your inner healing.  The active listening, empathy and feedback that are part of the therapy process can help reduce feelings of isolation and lead to meaningful change.  I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, family systems theories, and solution-focused.  I also determine the focus of treatment by what will be the best fit for each person and their situation.
